Signs of Percocet Addiction in Someone You Love

Sadly, drug and alcohol addiction is now a serious problem in this country. Since the turn of the century, drug and alcohol addiction has all but taken over in this country. Currently, prescription painkiller addiction is the number one cause of overdose deaths in the US. Percocet is one of the prescription opioids to which people become addicted very easily. If you have a loved one who is abusing this drug, you need to look for the signs of Percocet addiction.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction at Epidemic Levels

Drug and alcohol addiction has never been as bad as it is now in the history of the United States. Each year, the problem continues to grow. For that reason, we are raising the threat levels of drug and alcohol addiction in this country to an epidemic. For some perspective on that, this is the first time in the history of the nation that drug and alcohol addiction ever hit this level.

We can see easily that substance abuse is getting worse, relatively very quickly too.  For a perspective example, in the year 1990, the National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that there were about eight million Americans who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. By 2001, that number had risen to twelve million, and now, less than twenty years later, it has almost doubled at twenty-three million drug and alcohol addicts in this country.

Prescription Drug Abuse

Probably the single most significant reason for drug addiction is the sudden inception of prescription drugs. Between the years of 2001 and 2005, American pharmaceutical companies primarily increased the production and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs into the hands of the American populace. Suddenly, over the course of only three years, there were three times as many addictive pills floating around the nation, creating an infinite opportunity for people to abuse these drugs if they wanted, and that’s exactly what they did. More and more people began developing addictions to these pills. After all, they are easy to obtain, not illegal, and all but prolific in society.

One of the drugs to hit the tops of the charts in popularity and abuse is Percocet. Percocet is a drug that is made to help people with pain. However, in many cases, the drug user often abuses it. It doesn’t matter if they have a prescription for it or take it recreationally. This medication causes endless problems. The drug creates huge issues for those who start taking it for pain or pleasure.

Signs of Percocet Addiction

Whether a person is taking Percocet for legitimate reasons, or whether they are taking it to abuse it, the drug is dangerous. That is the simple truth of the matter. What is Percocet, and what are Percocet side effects? The drug is prolific and spread wide across the states, but few know what the drug is or how damaging it can be.

Percocet is a painkiller drug that combines Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. The two drugs combine to create a short-term pain medication that is intended to treat moderate to severe pain in individuals. Percocet is heavily influencing on the human brain, affecting how the brain perceives and processes pain. When a person takes it in large doses or in any way not exactly as a doctor prescribes it (and sometimes even then) Percocet can and will cause a euphoric high in the person taking it. The drug overwhelms the dopamine receptors in the brain, creating a rush of euphoria and pleasant feelings, following with a resulting crash and “coming down” off of the drug.

Abusing Percocet leaves signs that people can pick up on. If you know someone who takes Percocet in any way that is not recommended by their doctor or in amounts not recommended, that is signs of Percocet addiction. Also, doctor shopping is another one of the signs of Percocet addiction. Furthermore, having to consistently take Percocet with no foreseeable end to it is a sign of an addiction to it.
