Alcohol Poisoning: Does It Mean You Need Addiction Rehab?

Alcohol abuse and addiction are quickly becoming the single most concerning and problematic issue in the nation today.  As more people begin drinking heavily, the incidents of alcohol poisoning have increased exponentially across the US.

Alcohol abuse is easily not only the most damaging substance abuse issue in the United States, but it is also the most underreported substance abuse issue in the nation too, with few people knowing the grim truth that alcohol addiction is a prevalent and real problem in the country today.   In fact, so much money is made with alcohol sales in the private sector and with taxes, the real issue often goes unresolved and unaddressed. For example, just in the year of 2015, there were over eighty-thousand Americans who died from substance abuse of one kind or another, and the result of that was that over half a million Americans lost a loved one to an alcohol-related cause or crisis of some sort.

It doesn’t end there, though, not by a long shot.  One of the biggest problems with drug and alcohol addiction in the nation today has been with alcohol abuse affecting more people than it ever has before.  It is concerning indeed because alcohol is easy to get and abuse in this country.  It is so accepted in society today that it is practically forced on us with marketing and advertisements left and right. Today, roughly fifteen to twenty Americans are addicted to alcohol, and about sixty to eighty thousand of them dies from it every year from alcohol poisoning, alcohol-related health issues, driving under the influence of it, or from other alcohol-related causes.

Some Surprising Statistics About Alcohol Abuse

Nearly 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes every year, and this is where alcohol poisoning comes into play.  In fact, this makes alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States, by far.  Only smoking and obesity kill more people than alcohol does.  Furthermore, in 2014, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities accounted for 9,967 deaths altogether (31 percent of overall driving fatalities in this country).  So we can see, without a doubt, that alcohol poisoning along with the other negative aspects of alcohol is prevalent.

Why Alcohol Poisoning Equates a Need for Rehab

The demographic affected the most by alcohol abuse, and alcohol addiction is by far young adults and college students in general.  The overall effects and the results of college students abusing alcohol are pretty devastating, to say the least, and it has been on the rise too.  Now, there are about 1,825 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 dying from alcohol-related unintentional injuries, including motor-vehicle crashes to list just one of the causes.  696,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking, and in fact, ninety percent of all college assault involves alcohol too.

All of this and more shows that, when alcohol has become a very big part of a person’s life, it is time to throw in the towel and look into rehabilitation options.  The key to beat alcohol addiction is with an inpatient alcohol treatment center.  These programs are essential to helping people overcome alcohol substance abuse problems.
