Personalized Treatment Plans: Why Addicts Should Have a Say During Rehab

In a nation that is currently struggling with its worst ever drug and alcohol addiction crisis, a lot of people are wondering how to address addiction and how to beat addiction. In times like these when President Barack Obama himself announced in 2010 that substance abuse was in the top ten most concerning crisis issues of the nation, people are struggling for answers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) even stated recently that addiction was now an official Epidemic, whereas prior it had only been a crisis. This was the first time addiction ever reached this category. Finally, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) was quoted in 2013 as saying that there was never as high of a demand for addiction treatment as there was now. Certainly, this is a big issue we are facing here.

Substance abuse takes a pretty major toll on all who become involved with it. It is a terrible crisis and a very worrisome problem and it kills people. One out of every three Americans is somehow connected to an addict, and one out of six Americans actually has an addict within their own family. So, it is not just the addicts themselves who feel the hurt of addiction. It goes much deeper than that.

Substance abuse has peaked to record breaking numbers in the nation with now more than twenty-five million Americans being addicted. It gets worse though. According to SAMHSA, only about four or five-hundred thousand get rehabilitated every year, yet close to a million become addicted every year. The problem is getting worse, not better. As if that wasn’t bad enough, about eighty to a hundred thousand Americans sadly lose their lives every single year because of substance abuse.

With addiction wrecking this much havoc across the nation, tens of millions of Americans are searching for answers and hunting for solutions. The clearest method to addressing addiction is with inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. These are by far the most important and most beneficial of all of the different types of approaches to addiction treatment.

Why Personal Choice is Crucial in Rehabilitation

Drug and alcohol addiction has now become so prevalent that the need for addiction rehab has never been greater. And not just any addiction rehab either. Specifically, those who are addicted need to be able to go to an inpatient rehab program.

Inpatient drug and alcohol addiction rehab centers have been around since the 1920s. For almost a century man has known that the only way to truly best something as horrendous as addiction was with a rehabilitation program. A crisis like drug or alcohol addiction is not something that can be dealt with alone.

However, there is one, key aspect to addiction treatment that has by and large gone unhandled and unaddressed, at least not until very recently. For decades, inpatient rehab centers only utilized a singular approach, meaning that the rehab center only offered one method or technique for helping addicts beat addiction. This was usually a twelve step program.  This has been an outpoint, especially now. Now, with such a huge number of people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, rehab centers have needed to start offering more personalized, malleable programs. Rehab centers have needed to expand on their services and be able to give addicts a choice on what types of services they would receive.

Why the need for personalized rehab? Essentially, addicts are still individual people, even if they seem to be glommed into a standard demographic of addicted persons. Different treatment methods will work on different people, and some rehab methods will not work on some people. This is exactly why personalized rehab is miles above traditional rehab in terms of quality of approach and overall success rates.

Personalized addiction treatment is key for triumphing against addiction once and for all. With personalized treatment, anyone who is addicted to anything can finally experience the perfect program for them and go free from addiction, once and for all.
