Addiction Rehab: How it’s Making Addicts Better People

Rehab programs today seek to find ways of making addicts better people.  Drug and alcohol addiction is a harsh and continually worsening issue in the United States today.  Following as it has a trend of prevalence that has steadily increased throughout the years.

Factors Behind The Addiction Increase

Multiple factors have contributed to this problem.  For example:

  • Substance abuse problems are having an adverse effect on Americans everywhere.  This issue is the steadily increasing prescription drug abuse in this country.  Studies show that the production, distribution, sale, and proliferation of prescription drugs increased by well over 300% between the years of 2001 and 2005. Furthermore, the US only makes up about five percent of the planet’s population but consumes almost 80% of the world’s supply of prescription drugs. Truly it is an over-medicated society, to say the least.
  • As of 2012, overdose deaths involving prescription opioids increased to almost 17,000 deaths a year in the US alone. These drugs kill more Americans than all other drugs combined.
  • Researchers reveal that the increase in heroin use is linked to prescription opioid abuse. Young people often become addicted to pain pills and progress on to heroin when prescription pills are hard to obtain.
  • Over 1.2 million emergency room visits involved the non-medical use of prescription medication in 2011.  In no less than 29 percent of these medical emergencies, opioids were involved to some degree or another.  Furthermore, medical emergencies resulting from prescription drug abuse increased by 132 percent over the last seven years, with opioid involvement rising by about 183 percent overall.
So these facts and statistics are just over the increasing trends and rates of prescription drugs and heroin.  There are a lot of other factors to consider as well that ultimately add to these problems.

How Rehab is Making Addicts Better People

Without a doubt, the single best way to address an addiction problem is with an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.  Studies show that residential addiction centers provide the most favorable recovery results by making addicts better people in many aspects of their lives.

Rehabilitation centers help people on profound and intimate levels that are immensely beneficial.  Addiction treatment centers provide an intensive and a lasting recovery for those who struggle with addiction.

The great thing about addiction recovery is that rehab centers do more than just rehabilitate a person.  These rehab centers also do a world of good for a person by essentially helping them come to terms with their addictions.  But then, rehab centers go the extra mile and make the person more productive to society in general.  Making addicts better people is the best way to ensure a lasting recovery.
