Vicodin Addiction

One of the prescription drugs that is abused the most is Vicodin.  Vicodin is a common and very dangerous substance, one of which needs to be addressed and adjusted so that it is not so deadly and dangerous for so many people.  Vicodin addiction is a source of trouble for a lot of people, unfortunately, and sadly it is a substance that creates ongoing and very risky addictive habits.

Drug and alcohol addiction is a very prevalent issue in this nation today, and it is something that just seems to get worse and worse every year with no sign of it getting any better any time soon.  Substance abuse has rapidly grown in this country to become an issue that is now the single most disturbing health related problem in this country.  True enough, substance abuse is the biggest health problem in this country, one of which negatively affects tens of millions of people.

When addiction is looked at and analyzed, the single biggest problem with it has been with prescription drugs.  Prescriptions drugs are now an even bigger problem than they ever were prior to the turn of the century, and prescription drugs, in fact, are more serious and more concerning than all other narcotic drugs combined.

Vicodin

What is Vicodin?  What are the Vicodin side effects?  Vicodin is a pain drug, meaning that it contains hydrocodone.  Vicodin also contains acetaminophen too, which acts to boost the effects of hydrocodone.  While Vicodin has some benefits in its ability to help people in or recently out of the hospital who suffer from pain, Vicodin does not have long term benefits or help for people.  The problem with the drug is that it can and often does create a habit and an addiction, not only when it is taken recreationally, but also when it is taken as prescribed too.

Not only can Vicodin create an addiction in anyone who takes it, but can create adverse side effects too. For example:

  • Vicodin can cause shallow breathing and a slow heartbeat.
  • Vicodin can cause a light headed and dizzy feeling, like one is going to lose consciousness.
  • Vicodin can cause confusion, distorted thoughts, and overall confusing ideas.
  • Vicodin can cause seizures, shocks, convulsions, and tremors.
  • Vicodin can cause bleeding and easy bruising for those who take part in it.
  • Vicodin can cause reproductive problems like infertility, missed periods, impotence, sexual problems, loss of interest in sex or sexual activities, etc.
  • Vicodin can cause liver and stomach problems, jaundice, and other health problems.
  • Vicodin can cause headaches, an upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, and constipation.
  • Vicodin can cause blurred vision, dizziness, and an inability to focus.

Addressing Vicodin Addiction with Rehab

The best way to address an addiction is with the help of an inpatient treatment center.  Vicodin is a tough and a brutal addiction crisis.  When one is hooked, nothing will work for them for beating the Vicodin addiction except for an inpatient program.  More specifically, they need to go to an inpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment center that has a detox approach and an aftercare program as well.

A treatment center will help people who are addicted to Vicodin by doing at least three things:

  • Detox. Detox is the approach that effectively helps a person get their recovery process started.  This approach addresses one’s chemical dependence to drugs and alcohol effectively.  With a drug like Vicodin, the chemical dependence that one feels to it is truly terrible and controlling. When people take Vicodin for any length of time, they really do become chemically dependent upon the drug.  Starting treatment with a detox approach effectively helps them find their freedom from the substance at least on a physical, chemical level.
  • Rehab. Rehab is the approach that effectively addresses the mental aspects of drug and alcohol addiction.  This approach works on the underlying issues and the psychological aspects of addiction.  It addresses those hidden, undisclosed reasons as to why people start abusing a drug like Vicodin in the first place.  Once these underlying issues are taken up and addressed, recovering addicts can start to work on actually handling those issues and building up an ability to stay clean and sober from substances in the future.
  • Aftercare. This is a crucial approach that inpatient treatment centers offer.  With this approach, people who graduate a treatment center are able to effectively and simply continue to work on their recovery from an outpatient approach and standpoint.  This is crucial because this approach services people and helps them to see the truth and the future that is free from addiction.
